Blower Door Test

Blower Door Test

Why should I seal my home?

Draught proofing is one of the single most effective ways to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer.  Heating and cooling costs make up a large percentage of the average household’s energy bills, so investing in some decent draught proofing is very cost effective, as well as improving the comfort levels in your home. A well-sealed home can benefit your health, energy bills and the environment. Some benefits include:

  • Lower energy bills
  • Less polluted air caused by fossil fuel based energy supplies
  • Less unexpected visitors arriving through gaps in the building envelope
  • Humidity levels can be better controlled, leading to lower instances of allergies

However, it can be hard to know exactly where you have air leaks in your home. To help take out the guess-work, you can order a blower door test!

Sounds great, so what is a blower door test?

A blower door test uses special equipment to measure how often the air within the building changes. This outlines how much air is escaping in and out of the building. A thermal camera is then used to determine where the leaks in the house are.

The blower door test takes approximately 3 hours and after a few days you will be emailed a written report with thermal camera images identifying leaks and suggestions on how to seal those leaks.

Here’s a video of how it works:
